Skills Bootcamps are free, flexible courses of up to 16 weeks, giving you the opportunity to build up sector-specific skills and an offer of an interview with an employer upon completion.
Whether you're looking for a new job, a promotion, or to upskill your team, Skills Bootcamps offer a fast-track route to career success.
Funded by the Department for Work and Pensions, Skills Bootcamps are part of a wider mission to support local people and businesses through high-quality training.

Skills Bootcamps are fully funded for learners, making them a cost-free way to gain new, job-relevant skills. They’re designed to fit around your life, with online and part-time options available.
Fast-track to employment or promotion
Courses are short and focused on real job outcomes. Many include a guaranteed interview with an employer, helping you move quickly into a new role or advance in your current one.
No prior knowledge required
For most Skills Bootcamps, you do not need to have any previous knowledge in the subject. Build practical, job-ready skills in growing sectors like digital, construction, and health and care.
Who can apply?
You are eligible if you are:
- Aged 19 or over
- Live in Essex (which includes postcodes in Essex, Southend-on-Sea and Thurrock) and meet residency requirements
- Have the right to work in the UK
- Employed, self-employed, unemployed or returning to work after a break

Description: By the end of this part-time online Skills Bootcamp, learners will be able to: Plan, manage, and execute construction projects with financial, operational and safety confidence. Interpret and utilise construction drawings effectively. Apply digital tools such as estimating or health and safety software to support project delivery. Air Source Heat Pump Installer

Description: Our Clean Energy Air Source Heat Pump (ASHP) Installer Skills Bootcamp is a 9-week intensive programme designed to help adults aged 19 and over develop the technical skills, practical knowledge and regulatory awareness needed to work in the growing low-carbon heating and retrofit sector. With demand for Air Source Heat Pump installers increasing, this Skills Bootcamp can help learners take the next step into a sustainable and future-focused career.
Delivered in person at Chelmsford College, one day per week, the programme brings together industry-recognised training in areas including WRAS Water Regulations, Legionella Awareness, Unvented Hot Water Systems, Low Temperature Heating and Hot Water Systems, and the Installation and Maintenance of Air Source Heat Pumps.

Description: Colchester Institute and L Lynch Hire are working in partnership, to support Sizewell C and other projects, by offering free courses to those who wish to gain the necessary qualifications, knowledge and practical training to work in plant machinery within the construction sector.
This course provides learners with the knowledge and practical skills required to operate plant machinery safely and effectively. Participants will gain an understanding of the purpose and function of different machines, carry out pre-use and running checks, and correctly prepare equipment for both site operations and road travel. The course also covers safe travel over varying ground conditions, selecting the appropriate power modes for daily tasks, placing machines into and out of service, and understanding the correct procedures for loading and unloading machinery from a transporter.

Using EstimatorXpress, perform material take-offs and produce cost estimates from your drawings. Recognise core health and safety requirements. Deliver clear and engaging presentations using digital tools to showcase designs or project proposals.
There are no exams. You will receive a certificate on successful completion of the Level 3 course and production of a portfolio of CAD projects to demonstrate competence.
