LifeSkills is about equipping learners with the skills they need in the modern world to get the jobs they want.

LifeSkills was formed to help create a brighter future for all the people we work with. Our three core values that the business is built on are:

  • To promote and deliver a culture of care for everyone
  • Support, listen and respect each other
  • Be open, honest and do what we say we will.

LifeSkills is about equipping learners with the skills they need in the modern world to get the jobs they want. Our employment and learning Programmes have been highly praised throughout the industry. In our most recent Ofsted Inspection, we were viewed as giving ‘Outstanding’ advice and guidance to learners and apprentices.

Key Provision

We accept school leavers and we have no entry requirements for any of our programmes. We offer Study Programmes and Traineeships for 16-18 year olds.

We offer a wide range of Study Programmes to meet the individual needs of the young person. We match work experience to the vocation chosen by the young person to ensure they are work ready and are able to gain the skills and knowledge required to make progression in their chosen field. All vocational courses embed English, maths and personal development. You can base the study programme around your interests and/or career aspirations which help you improve your skills, knowledge, understanding and experience. This will help your chances in progressing into your chosen career either through a job, apprenticeship or further training. You may also be eligible for an attendance allowance or bursary (depending on household income and individual circumstances) including bus fares to and from the training centre or work placement so there is no cost to you.

However we do not offer Apprenticeship or Higher Education provision and we do not offer courses for anyone over 18 unless an EHCP is in place.

My Time at LifeSkills – Learner Journey

I joined LifeSkills as a Learner in September 2012. I enrolled onto a Business Administration Level 1 course. During my training I undertook a work placement working on reception, answering the telephone and helping out around the centre with general admin tasks. I achieved my Business Administration Level 1 and Functional Skills English and maths. I received support throughout my course which helped me achieve my qualifications and build my confidence. I had regular reviews with my Tutor which helped me outline my targets and what I had achieved.

As I was approaching the end of my course at LifeSkills, my Tutor and Centre Manager spoke to me about the opportunity of doing an Apprenticeship with LifeSkills, working on reception and in the office. I was over the moon that I was offered this and couldn’t wait to start.

I started my Apprenticeship in May 2013 and achieved my Business Administration Level 2 and 3. After my Apprenticeship I was gratefully offered a permanent job as an Administrator, I was so happy that I was able to continue my journey with LifeSkills.

In 2017 I was promoted to the Deputy Centre Manager after completing a trial period and in 2020 I was promoted to Centre Manager, which I feel is a big achievement.

I owe a massive thanks to each and every member of staff at LifeSkills, their support and guidance has helped me progress to my full potential.
