Overview of The Sixth Form College, Colchester 

 

The College is extremely proud of the reputation it has established for very high academic standards and the outstanding achievements of our students. 

The College was one of the first four colleges in the country to be awarded Beacon Status and the second Sixth Form College to be awarded a Queens Award for Higher and Further Education and recently a prestigious Platinum Level Science Mark Award.

Student Achievements 

Students have consistently achieved excellent results at A Level, Applied General, GCSE and more specialist courses including Extended Project Qualifications, Coaching Sport, Financial Certificates (LIBF), Royal School of Music Instrument Exams, Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award Scheme and RADA qualifications and in the fields of Sport, Music, Drama, Dance and Art.  

Students get involved in sporting or fitness activities, College Council, Ambassador, Sports Leadership, Peer Mentoring, Active Citizenship programmes and charitable work. Developing leadership and employability skills. 

 

Student Progression 

Significant numbers of our students commence degree courses in the prestigious fields of Medicine, Sciences, Engineering, Computing, IT, Mathematics, Languages, English, Economics, Journalism, Fine Art, Social Sciences, Law, Music, Business, Management, Finance, History, Geography and specialist courses in fields of art, photography and performing arts.  

A large number of students progress to ‘Russell Group’ universities, including Oxford and Cambridge, or other highly selective degree courses including at Law Schools or Medical Schools.  

Our students participate in activities to prepare them for successful progression into Higher Education, employment and adult life. The College is a happy, positive, caring community. Our students’ success and achievements demonstrate that the College is where young people, including those with health or personal difficulties, develop and flourish.
